How SARC Can Help

The Sexual Assault Response Consultative (SARC) Team members are professional staff members at GW who are trained and prepared to assist survivors of sexual assault or rape. Team members do not act as counselors, but can provide the survivor with information and resources to make informed decisions regarding the incident.

SARC Team members can:

  • assist the survivor in identifying their medical, counseling, safety and academic needs
  • identify the appropriate campus and/or community resources to provide necessary assistance
  • assist with transportation to obtain Forensic Medical Exams at Washington Hospital Center
  • follow up with the survivor to determine if the services have been obtained and have met the survivor's needs
  • arrange follow up with the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response Coordinator to provide ongoing University assistance
  • explain reporting options, such as filing a report with the Metropolitan Police Department or GW Police Department, filing a temporary or certified protection order, reviewing disciplinary options available through the university's student judicial system, and discussing university housing options, all while acting as an educator about rape, domestic violence and sexual assault
